2016 theme: WATER
A simple chemical compound, H2O, water is life giving and life sustaining – water makes up our oceans, rivers, glaciers and fills our wells. It takes the form of ice, snow and steam and exists as fog, rain and clouds. It is home to thousands of creatures, miniscule to massive. It can be catastrophic – water sinks ships, drowns, causes storms of the century – or it can put out a raging fire, quench a drought-stricken landscape and save a dehydrated herd from death in the desert. It can be the dew on the grass, a cool drink that provides relief on a hot day or the cubes that clink around in a cocktail glass at a holiday party. Water can be the barrier for reaching a destination or the only way to get there. The parting of the Red Sea, Homer’s Odyssey, Moby Dick – tell us about WATER.
