How The New Library Plan Affects The Cabin

As you may know, the City of Boise is planning to build a new main library at the current downtown library’s site just northeast of The Cabin. As draft designs are released over the next few weeks, you may notice that The Cabin is missing from the library plan. What does this omission mean for our arts organization and this iconic building?First of all, we want to assure you that no matter what happens next door, our organization will not vanish. The City of Boise owns our building, but the structure was only preserved and renovated because of our founders’ efforts. (For more details on The Cabin’s history, visit here.) The Cabin’s staff and board have been negotiating with the city to find a solution that protects the investment so many of you have made in this spectacular building while minimizing disruption of our programs and services during library construction.Will the building be moved? Unfortunately, we don’t have a firm answer. We are regularly meeting with city officials and gathering information so that if a move is necessary we can prepare for the situation and safeguard our organization’s health and sustainability.We are proud stewards of this beloved building that is intimately tied to both our identity and our success. Over the years, the City of Boise has been a great partner to our organization and they are committed to providing us a home and supporting the literary arts.
