The Cabin to Receive $10,000 Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts
BOISE – National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Jane Chu has approved more than $80 million in grants as part of the NEA’s second major funding announcement for fiscal year 2018. Included in this announcement is an Art Works grant of $10,000 to THE CABIN, a center for readers & writers to bring world-renowned writers and thinkers to Boise for their Readings & Conversations lecture series. The Art Works category is the NEA’s largest funding category and supports projects that focus on the creation of art that meets the highest standards of excellence, public engagement with diverse and excellent art, lifelong learning in the arts, and/or the strengthening of communities through the arts.“The variety and quality of these projects speaks to the wealth of creativity and diversity in our country,” said NEA Chairman Jane Chu. “Through the work of organizations such as The Cabin in Boise, NEA funding invests in local communities, helping people celebrate the arts wherever they are.”“The Cabin is committed to forging community through the voices of all readers, writers, and learners,” said Cabin Executive Director Kurt Zwolfer. “NEA support will help ensure we can continue to bring the country’s most talented writers to Boise to help us jumpstart a collective conversation on critical issues that affect us as both individuals and as a nation.”Readings & Conversations brings some of the best authors, thinkers, rabble-rousers, and cultural icons to stages at the Morrison Center and the Egyptian Theatre in Boise. The lecture series offers a view of the world through writers' eyes, shaped by their imaginations, fired by their passions, and illuminated by questions from an audience of readers, students, writers, and other literature lovers from across the Treasure Valley and beyond. The 2018 – 19 season will feature authors Matthew Desmond, Tayari Jones, Tara Westover, David Grann, and Jennifer Egan.
