New Executive Director joins The Cabin

Kurt Zwolfer joins The Cabin as new Executive DirectorBOISE – The Cabin’s Board of Directors announced its selection of Kurt Zwolfer as Executive Director.Zwolfer’s selection was announced earlier this month to a sold-out crowd at the Morrison Center for the Cabin’s Readings and Conversations Series Kick-Off event and gala, the same night Pulitzer Prize-winner Anthony Doerr was presented the Key to the City.Celebrating its 20^th Anniversary, the Cabin has served as a critical launching pad for up-and-coming writers. Its acclaimed Readings and Conversations series, featuring nationally-known authors, regularly sells out at the Egyptian Theatre and Morrison Center. Highly popular children’s Summer Writing Camps continue to grow and expand in the number and creativity of sessions offered. Participation in Adult Writing Workshops and Classes is at an all-time high.“In its search, the Board sought an Executive Director who could build on the center’s strong history and fuel the creativity and momentum of recent years in which the Cabin has effectively positioned itself with a broader audience,” said past-president Karen Baerlocher. “Kurt will be a passionate and effective champion of The Cabin’s mission and will quickly become a creative partner in Boise’s growing cultural community.”With degrees in writing and education, Zwolfer directed visitor services as well as educational programs and exhibits for the Idaho Historical Museum. He oversaw public outreach as well as a large volunteer program, and in 2013 he was awarded the Mayors Award for Excellence in History Education. A memorable achievement in the community was Zwolfer’s innovative leadership on the city’s Dia de los Muertos Celebration, in which participants created giant woodblock banners printed with a steamroller – after which hundreds joined a highly visual processional down Capitol Boulevard.“Kurt Zwolfer is an excellent choice—he has a terrific track record in developing collaborative partnerships and opportunities for creative engagement. His vision and implementation for programs is absolutely superb. I’m very excited to see the results of what Kurt and his team at the Cabin will do,” said Terri Schorzman, Director of Boise City’s Department of Arts and History.Zwolfer’s first day directing The Cabin was October 19^th.
