Whatever form our writing takes, meaning matters. Whether meaning is revealed directly through dialogue or narration, or is made through words and form, we want our readers to carry a feeling or an idea away from the page. Meaning often culminates in a peak of action or climactic moment, but even more often, meaning is expressed through some kind of epiphany, or a moment of significant realization. Epiphany changes everything.
In this six-week workshop, we will explore how characters and narrators (as well as we ourselves) experience epiphany, and what it means for the stories we tell and the meaning we make. Studying primarily fiction and poetry, we will respond to weekly writing prompts inspired by our discussion. Writers of all abilities and genres are welcome.
This workshop will be held online. You must have the Zoom app downloaded and a reliable internet connection to access your class meetings. You will interact live with the instructor and will receive materials in advance of class to ensure rich discussion and engagement. You will receive the information to access your Zoom classroom one week before the start of your workshop — check your spam folders if you don’t see it!
