Finding a Way Home (Excerpt)
Madison, Grade 4
Seven Oaks Elementary
Hi, my name is Lucas and I really want something. It’s hard for me to explain. I want to go back home because I really miss my home. Here let me tell you how this all started.
Once upon a time I woke up and I said, “Good morning beautiful enchanted forest.” I went to go wake up my pet dog Max to see if he’s ready to go on a walk.
“Hey!” said loudly Max. “I’m sleeping don’t wake me up!”
“But don’t you want to go on a walk?” said Lucas.
“Oh boy yes I do!” said Max.
Lucas and Max went on a walk. Suddenly they saw four doors, a light green door, a black door, a dark green door, and a yellow door.
“Let’s go into the yellow door,” said Lucas.
“Ok!” said Max distracted.
Then they walk into the door and the door sucked them up. The next thing they knew they were in a whole different world. They both start to walk around. Then Lucas finds a huge tree with his favorite food on it, strawberries. Lucas picks some off the tree for later.
Lucas and Max start to walk even more. Suddenly they find a huge castle. Lucas and Max go inside. They see two gingerbread people with crowns.
Lucas asks the gingerbread people, “Who are you?” The gingerbread people answer, “We are the king and queen of this world.”
Lucas was confused. So, he asked “Where am I?”
The king and queen answer “You are in Candyland.”
“How do I get home?”
The king and queen said worriedly, “Well you have to find four keys to four doors.”
“So, there’s no escape?” said Lucas.
The king and queen said, “Just go find the four keys so you can go home.”
Lucas and Max walked outside to find the keys, but the king and queen said loudly
“Go to the tiny castle and the keys are in the obstacles!”
“Ok,” Lucas said.
After a while Lucas and Max found the tiny castle.
“Look here we are!” said Lucas.
Then they both walked inside.
“Look the keys” said Lucas.
“Wait, we have to do the obstacles first,” said Max. Lucas saw the signs to the first obstacle. They both walk into the first obstacle called The Maze.
