Peace in Your Mind
Liam, Grade 4
Roosevelt Elementary
The cheat grass waves in the air like the rippling ocean. The sky is gray with rain trickling. The world is quiet. It is as if you are frozen in time. There are oak trees standing tall. There is a melancholy air about this place.
Peace, you are left alone with your thoughts. Thoughts about your life, thoughts about the universe, thoughts about what will happen after you emerge from this place. The rain taps your head tap tap tap.
You can stay there as long as you want. There are no time limits. Study the landscape. Create more.
You start walking, rustling the cheat grass, not knowing where you are going. Time blurs. You are left only aware of your thoughts. Not feeling the rain, not knowing you are walking onward like an ant. Not knowing where you are or where you are going, a ship lost at sea, but knowing it will end up somewhere.
You are gently pulled back to reality by the sound of the ocean. You are standing on the edge of a ridge over the ocean. There is no sand, just craggy rocks. You wonder how long you have been walking, minutes, hours, even days?
