Sir Lonely Corncob was a lonely man who lived in Ireland. He was rich, but that did not matter because he had no one to talk to. The only thing he had was chess. He loved to play chess, and he was good at it, too. He had visited all over the world to play in tournaments.
One day, he was leaving for Canada to decide who was the best in the world! For too long he had been known as the best in Ireland. That night, he brushed his mustache and went to bed.
The next day, he got dressed and headed out to see his limo outside. He hopped into the limo and headed to the airport. And found out that his flight was delayed. He waited for countless hours until he thought, Wait, I’m rich.
He walked up to the front desk and told the consultant that he would like to get a private plane. She said she’d have one ready for him in ten minutes. He got in the plane and sat next to the pilot. He got out his pillow and took a nap right as they were flying through Maine.
He woke up an hour later and looked at the Captain, who was having a seizure. He looked like he was in an out-of-control massage chair. He tried to grab the steering wheel, but the pilot’s leg hit it. The plane was now heading straight for the ground. He tried to move, but the G-forces were too strong. He had about five seconds before he hit the ground. When he hit, he heard the noises of sirens and then everything went dark.
He woke up on a checkerboard floor. He sat up and began to look around. He saw a junkyard with broken cars and planes. He had always been interested in cars since he was a teen. He told his father one day that he wanted to go to America to work on cars. His father was furious that he wanted to leave Ireland. His father died the next day, he was so mad at himself that this had been his last conversation with his dad.
While examining a light in the roof, a hippo appeared and quickly threw a sack of potatoes and tools at him. Then the hippo opened its mouth and a glow worm popped out and said the city he was in would be destroyed in one day. Then he found an old car and melted wings into the side. After he got the engine to run, he went to bed. He woke up the next morning to an earthquake and concrete falling from the sky…
