In this workshop, we'll explore themes and trends in contemporary horror and horror-adjacent genres and begin crafting our own horror stories. On odd-numbered weeks we’ll take a self-focused approach, looking inside to develop your own horror ideas (and your own horror stories!) In even-numbered weeks, we’ll look outwards to begin building awareness of the horror writing community and to understand how contemporary horror literature is marketed, critiqued, and consumed. You should expect to read from the works of contemporary writers such as Stephen Graham Jones, Silvia Moreno-Garcia, Laird Barron, Michael Wehunt, Gwendolyn Kiste, and more. Expect to write at least one short story and build a lengthy TBR list of horror-focused craft books, novels, anthologies, and collections.
