Revisit old stories and pivotal moments in your life with fresh eyes in this six-week memoir workshop.
The lens through which you view yourself and remember your past experiences is often blurred by the opinions and judgments of your parents, siblings, friends, and peers. It makes sense, then, that way you write about your life is limited or expanded by the wisdom and perspective of your narrative voice.
In this six-week memoir workshop, participants will revisit old stories and pivotal moments in their lives with fresh eyes. Each week, we will explore how craft choices regarding point of view, tense, organization, imagery, scene, and reflection dictate the depth and nuance of our narrative voice. Between meetings, participants will read one or two (short) nonfiction texts, including essays and excerpts from writers like Scott Russell Sanders, David Sedaris, Joan Didion, Jonathan Lethem, Lorrie Moore, Lucy Grealy, and Lidia Yuknavitch. Class time will include reflections on the readings, discussions about craft, revision strategies, generative prompts, and time for sharing. Participants will have the option to submit one piece of class writing for feedback.
This workshop will take place in person at The Cabin (801 S. Capitol Blvd., Boise, ID 83702).
