Writing a book is not a skill; it’s dozens of skills all woven together. There are the basic narrative techniques we’re all familiar with (dialogue, pacing, characterization, etc…), but that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
The goal of this six-week workshop is to take a deep dive into the storytelling skills your high school English teacher never told you about. Participants will learn about writing the other, grounding scenes in the pyramid of abstraction, how to craft a surprising yet inevitable conclusion, and much more. Each session will focus on a different set of interrelated skills, with time set apart at the end of the workshop for group critique. Writers of all genres of narrative fiction are welcome.
